Takes place outdoors at the Safe Harbor Gazebo, 60 Ocean St., Rockland

ShinDaiko is a Japanese taiko drumming ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts. As a contemporary taiko ensemble, they build on traditional taiko roots while exploring modern melodies and sounds with a multi-instrumentalist roster of musicians. The Japanese character “Shin” in ShinDaiko means “advancing” or “moving forward.” ShinDaiko seeks to always be moving forward in their musical vision, to explore new ideas and concepts, and to weave the powerful sounds of taiko with other musical influences to create their own distinct melody. The ensemble includes Ger Tysk, an artist, musician, and sailor who explores cultural exchange and the role of the sea in the Asian-American experience.

Open to all ages
Runtime: 50-60 minutes

Artist Bio
ShinDaiko is a Japanese taiko drumming ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts, founded in 2012. They are proud to showcase the intensity, passion and history of Japanese drumming, a tradition spanning thousands of years. ShinDaiko specializes in live performances at public and private events in the Greater Boston area as well as around New England,  showcasing their drums for venues such as eclectic music festivals, arts demonstration, or Asian/Asian-American celebration. They also feature a quieter, more melodic “coffee shop set” for more intimate gatherings, featuring the talents of members on instruments such as the shinobue (Japanese flute) and sanshin (Okinawan 3 stringed lute). ShinDaiko released their first album, Omagatoki, in 2018 and are currently at work on their second studio album.

About the SUNSHINE SERIES 2024
Our new SUNSHINE SERIES presents outdoor performances for kids and families, taking place at the beautiful Safe Harbor Gazebo at 60 Ocean St in Rockland on select Thursday mornings and one super Sunday afternoon! Featuring a stellar line-up of circus acts, puppet shows, musical guests, and cultural activities, this new series is open to all ages and admission is Pay-What-You-Can ($0-20).  Each performance is 50-60 minutes long, and appropriate for all ages. Seating is on the concrete floor of the gazebo, so blankets and chairs are welcome. Attendees may use the restroom facilities at the Rockland Harbor YMCA. In case of inclement weather, the performance will take place indoors at the Strand Theatre. Please check our website and social media the day of the event for weather updates.

The SUNSHINE SERIES is co-produced by the Coastal Children’s Museum, presented by J. Edward Knight Insurance, and sponsored by OUT Maine, Safe Harbor,  the Rockland Harbor YMCA, and Rockland Rotary.
