Strand Marquee Planned Giving

Join the STRAND MARQUEE

The Strand Marquee recognizes the loyal and committed supporters of the Strand Theatre who have made an important commitment to its future through generous gift planning by bequest or charitable trust.

“We are happy to be the first Strand Marquee Members! We love the Strand, our kids love it,
and it’s important that it be here for their kids to love too. We’re thankful for the opportunity to
do what we can to keep the marquee lit for another 100 years.”

Leave Your Legacy with a Bequest or Similar Gift

A bequest is a gift by will or living trust that provides an opportunity to bestow meaningful support to the Strand while retaining control and possession of the asset for the duration of your life. Bequests may be for a specific amount, may be such that it is dependent on your estate reaching a certain amount, or may be for a percentage of your estate. Bequests may be in cash, securities or other assets, and may be unrestricted or restricted. Please feel free to discuss your gift with us, especially those that are restricted or consist of assets other than cash or marketable securities.

Donors may designate the Strand as a legacy donee of a donor advised fund. Donors may also name the Strand as a designated beneficiary to receive all or some of the proceeds from a retirement account, life insurance policy, or other asset that pays cash benefits to a designated beneficiary. For maximum tax benefit, the Strand, rather than your estate, must be named as the beneficiary. Supporters of the Strand who are considering designating the organization as a beneficiary are encouraged to contact us in advance of making such a designation.

“Wick Skinner, philanthropist, Harvard Business School Professor Emeritus and longtime Maine resident
passed away in 2019 at the age of 94. Wick believed in making things better and his
generous bequest to the Strand helped make his vision, and that wish, possible.”

Maybe We’re Already Included in Your Plans?

Often, people make a provision for organizations like The Strand in their estate plans, but we do not know until it is too late for us to thank them in person or get clarity on what they would most like their eventual gift to accomplish. If you have already included The Strand in your plans, please tell us by completing the simple Strand Marquee Legacy Form. We are happy to keep this information confidential/anonymous if you desire.

Why Your Future Gift is So Important Now

Although gifts made by bequests will not help us with our current needs, they will most certainly provide a critically important funding stream for future projects, to ensure that The Strand remains the vibrant and wonderful Treasure that it is today. What better way to leave a sustainable legacy to help change lives!
