Indie/Alternative
8:00PM
Mike Doughty (“looking At The World From The Bottom Of A Well “, “I Hear Bells”, and “Busting Up a Starbucks”), is an American Indie and Alternative singer/song-writer and former lead singer for the jazzy/electronic, not-quite-mainstream band Soul Coughing. He now has a strong and flourishing solo career, and has since returned to his acoustic roots on his latest disc, Sad Man, Happy Man (2009). One of his most stripped-down records to date, Sad Man, Happy Man keeps the attention squarely on Doughty's voice and acoustic guitar, accented by little more than a handful of bass and cello flourishes. Doughty carefully lines his lyrics with candid emotion and wit, and occasionally sings in a sort of freeform jazz-rap style. The result is redemptive and winning.
Mike Doughty has performed at Bonnaroo and the Austin City Limits Festival, supported arena tours with Dave Matthews Band and Barenaked Ladies, and headlined successful nationwide club tours. Through it all, Doughty has maintained a widely read blog (mikedoughty.com/blog) chronicling his unique shows, creative endeavors, international travels and more.
Opening for Doughty is NYC based up-and-coming indie artist Christina Courtin.
Tickets $15/General Admission. NOW available in advance at the Strand Box Office (online, phone and walk-up window).
